Earlier this week I featured Matt Damon’s charity, water.org, as part of three things going on “from the ground.” Today for Resource Friday (a day early on Thursday!) I want to feature this worthy organization in its own right.
First, Check it Out
Clean water for all is not a problem of technology. It’s a problem of funding. Here is what water.org is doing, in their own words:
For millions around the world, access to funds stands between them and safe water and sanitation in their home. Water.org offers a portfolio of smart solutions that break down the financial barriers between people living in poverty.
Specifically —
The WaterCredit Initiative® is our core solution. We work with our in-country financial partners to add loans for water and sanitation solutions to their portfolios. These partners then mobilize funding from capital markets to provide affordable loans to people in need of water. People living in poverty use these loans to put a tap or toilet in their homes. Every repaid loan creates the opportunity for another family to get the safe water and toilets they need, fast and affordably. It is a pay-it-forward system that makes it possible to help more people in ways that will last.
Interested in supporting them? Check out their financials.
Then, Sit Back & Watch — and Learn
In the meantime, here’s the trailer for the original 2020 documentary (the full movie is available on Netflix). Stay tuned for the new film coming out soon; info at Brave Blue World.
There’s also a YouTube channel.
