I was planning, finally, to start unpacking the Climate Leviathan book for you, at least its central speculation about four possible futures. This is what I’ve been working to set up over so many days!
But I came across some articles at Discourse Magazine I had saved to read later that say much worth hearing and pondering, all still on our general theme and in some ways richer, more real, maybe better.
I hadn’t really intended Daily Inchoate to be primarily a curational project, that is, finding and sharing things for you to watch or read. But when fascinating people say insightful things based on their unique experience and work, and when they say it much better than I ever could, and when selecting a few quotes or summarizing a few points won’t do, well… here you go. I’ll share and point, and you can click. 😎
So, here are three recommended reads on American political culture — let’s put it that way — as we head into a momentous election year. Included are some actually useful close-to-home recommendations. It’s not all abstract. Plus, I find discussions like these more hopeful because they’re nuanced and try to get at real complexities, even if underlying problems are difficult and tricky to solve. I recommend relatively complicated takes especially for those of us in the meliorating middle, i.e. not apathetic or disengaged or distracted mere “moderates,” but also not angry, polarized, political junkies filling out extreme party “bases”!
Enough lead-up. Here you go.
Take your time. Read one a day. Discuss with someone over the weekend. Dip into one or two that sound most interesting.
If you have time, write a little diary entry or save a quote or two that strikes you.
